A fine instrument is a partnership between the maker, the player and the investor. Kleos brings together the craft that builds value and the discipline that structures it.
A renowned luthier known for crafting fine violins, cellos and violas inspired by the Cremonese masters. Trained in the artist's studios above Carnegie Hall, Robert has cared for instruments by Stradivari, Guarneri and other Italian greats, and now devotes himself to making signature instruments in their spirit.
His instruments are played by soloists and members of leading orchestras, including the Stockholm, Los Angeles and New York Philharmonics, and held by institutions such as Harvard University and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. As a cello maker he is represented by J & A Beare, where he is also Director and Head of Scientific Research.
Mustafa brings more than two decades of investment experience to Kleos. He co-founded Octane, an alternatives solutions provider to institutional clients, serving as its Director of Funds before selling his holdings to the insurer Sanlam in 2009.
He was a strategist at the Lexington Worldwide Emerging Markets fund and at an emerging markets hedge fund, and earlier worked at Cambridge Associates in Boston, advising endowments and universities. It is this grounding in alternative assets and asset allocation that connects fine instruments to the wider portfolio.
An ensemble affiliated with Kleos, performing on instruments made by Robert Brewer Young: the clearest demonstration of a new master instrument as a living, played investment rather than a static asset.
